New Perspectives for the Production and Accumulation of (178m2)Hf Isomers

Authors: Ioan-Iovitz Popescu; ROMANIAN CENTER FOR INDUCED GAMMA EMISSION BUCHAREST (ROMANIA)

Abstract: This report results from a contract tasking Induced Gamma Emission Foundation as follows: The contractor will investigate the production and accumulation of the nuclear isomer 178m2 Hafnium by spallation of Tungsten targets with high-energy protons. Targets made of the isotope 186 Tungsten will be designed using the LAHET computer code, and fabricated for experimental verification. The Hafnium yield will be assayed and compared to LAHET calculations.
