Abstract:
CHEMICAL WEAPONS DISARMAMENT HAS COME TO THE FOREFRONT OF INTEREST OF THE US AND OTHER COUNTRIES YET IT REMAINS ELUSIVE. MANY BELIEVE THAT CHEMICAL ARMS CONTROL IS A PIPE DREAM RENDERED IMPOSSIBLE BY THE VERIFICATION OBSTACLE AND THAT, IN ANY CASE, THE PROLIFERATION OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS HAS DRIVEN THE PROBLEM BEYOND NEGOTIABLE SOLUTIONS. THIS PAPER EXAMINES THE US AND THE CHEMICAL ARMS CONTROL WITH DESIRABLE OUTCOMES LISTED VERSUS THE FEASIBLE AS WELL AS THE TRADE-OFFS THAT WILL NEED TO BE NEGOTIATED.
