Abstract:
A series of six papers on stimulated scattering is presented. A summary of the work on stimulated Rayleigh scattering in liquids is included. Polarization conditions are discussed and orientational relaxation times are determined. The existence of stimulated thermal Rayleigh scattering in gases and liquids has been observed. The threshold, critical absorption coefficient needed to suppress the stimulated Brillouin scattering, and the predicted anti-Stokes shift have been observed. The density dependence of the threshold has been investigated for CH4 and CO2. The time for thermalization of excited molecules when reduced to one atmosphere has been determined to be on the order of 0.1 microseconds. (Author)
