To establish acceptable limits for fluoride contamination levels in Phosphoric Acid Anodize (PAA) solution, freshly prepared PAA solution was intentionally doped with fluoride concentrations up to 1200 ppm. A wedge test was utilized to test the bondability of the surfaces that were anodized in the contaminated PAA solution. The morphology of the surfaces was determined by Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM). Both 2024 bare and 7075 clad alloys were studied. (Author, modified).
